Schools, colleges and training providers in the UK

Independent schools and academy trusts, nursery schools, colleges and universities, tutoring, language and dance schools, driving schools and training providers: for publishers, educational suppliers and software vendors who want to reach educational organisations by post.

Our UK dataset holds 2,676,396 records (as at 4 November 2026); they are not yet assigned to industries. The quote states the size available for this industry.

Export of the whole industry: £269 (full price). Selections by nation, postcode area or your own filters are quoted on request.

Official statistics: 51,745 businesses in the UK according to ONS, UK business: activity, size and location 2026 (enterprises in March 2026, published 24 September 2026). Partial coverage: section P education (division 85). The ONS counts enterprises registered for VAT and/or PAYE, not individual schools or nursery schools; an operator or trust with several sites counts once. This is the size of the market, not the size of our dataset.

What counts as Education and training

The industry is section P of UK SIC 2007 (division 85). The ONS counts enterprises registered for VAT or PAYE, not schools: an academy trust with several sites counts once.

Day nurseries and playgroups are not here: UK SIC puts them under child day-care (88.91), while nursery schools are pre-primary education (85.10). Council-maintained schools are not companies, so whether they appear depends on the source.

Official school lists in all four nations

Each nation publishes its own official list of schools, and academy trusts are on the companies register.

England
Get Information about Schools (Department for Education) covers state-funded and independent schools, other education providers and school governance; the public can search and download the data.
Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland
The Scottish Government publishes school contact details as an Excel file, the Welsh Government an address list of schools (school emails via local authority websites), Northern Ireland the directory Schools Plus.
Academy trusts
An academy trust is an independent charitable company limited by guarantee, and a multi-academy trust is one legal entity for all its academies (DfE governance guide). Trusts are therefore at Companies House.

Not in the export

  • school type and pupil numbers
  • Ofsted or other inspection ratings
  • academies belonging to a trust
  • names of head teachers and staff
  • term dates and courses

These 15 columns are included.

School, trust or course provider: three target groups

If you sell to academies in England, the buyer is often the trust, and one trust can run many academies. Course providers, language schools and tutors decide for themselves. Say which group you mean.

Where a tutor or driving instructor trades as a sole trader, the address may be a home address and the record is personal data under UK GDPR: give the Art. 14 information with a mailing and respect objections.

Academy trusts and independent schools run as companies are corporate subscribers under PECR reg. 2: an email to a school’s general address needs no prior consent if you identify yourself and offer an opt-out. Sole-trader tutors need consent or a soft opt-in (reg. 22(3)).

Questions

Education and training: frequently asked questions

Partly. Academy trusts are companies and can be matched to Companies House; council-maintained schools appear only if our sources list them with an address. For a complete list of schools, start from the official lists above.

Where a record carries a UK SIC code (from the Companies House match, which is in progress), yes: driving schools are 85.53. Otherwise we select by business category and name on request; the quote states how precise the selection is. The ONS index puts schools for lorry, bus and coach drivers under technical and vocational secondary education (85.32).

Academy trusts and schools run by companies are corporate subscribers: you may email their general address without prior consent if you identify yourself and include an opt-out. Named staff addresses are personal data. Details: PECR rules for B2B email and calls.
