MOT test stations listed by DVSA, motor finance by the FCA

Two official sources describe part of the motor trade; neither is a list of businesses with email addresses.

Active MOT test stations
DVSA publishes the active MOT test stations in England, Scotland and Wales as a CSV file with name, address, telephone number and vehicle classes tested, updated quarterly. Northern Ireland is not included.
Motor finance
Providers of finance for buying or hiring vehicles, for example PCP or PCH, need FCA authorisation as consumer credit lenders; the Financial Services Register shows firms one by one.
Companies House
Dealer groups and many garages are limited companies with a SIC code they chose themselves. Garages run by sole traders or ordinary partnerships are not on the register.

Not in the export

  • franchise brands and dealer agreements
  • MOT test station number
  • number of bays and technicians
  • names of service managers
  • reviews and vehicles in stock

These 15 columns are included.

Sales or workshop: what the SIC code tells you

A dealer with a workshop may be classified under car sales (45.11) or under repair (45.20), because the company chooses the code. If you sell workshop equipment, ask for both, plus 45.40 for motorcycle workshops.

Tyre businesses are split: selling tyres is parts retail (45.32), fitting them is 45.20. For tyre and parts distributors, combining 45.20, 45.31 and 45.32 gives the fullest picture.

Garages run by sole traders or by partnerships in England, Wales and Northern Ireland count as individuals under PECR reg. 2: marketing emails need consent or a soft opt-in (reg. 22(3)). Dealer groups trading as companies are corporate subscribers.
